Fortran 77 & 90/95 on Windows XP. How does one compile AND run fortran 77 & 90/95 codes on a Windows XP O. Fwsim Keygen Bandicam more. Which is a freeware Fortran compiler for Windows. Free Fortran Compilers There are a number of free Fortran 77 and 90 compilers available., which does not include a library and does not run under Windows XP. I have a Gateway laptop that runs Windows XP. I am trying to install and run a free FORTRAN-77 compiler. I have already downloaded Cygwin and a couple of freeware FORTRAN compilers (GNU77 among them). However, I am having alot of difficulty using the compiler from the Cygwin window. I have toyed with the PATH setting as much as possible.

I am really stimped. Thanks in advance. I've tried a couple different times to get cygwin running. The germans have a pretty good newsgroup for it: de.alt.comp.cygwin+co. I find myself reverting to windows before I make any headway. I had the same problem you have. >I have a Gateway laptop that runs Windows XP.

Do you know that you could also directly download a compiler that doesn't need cygwin, and work directly in the Windows command-line prompt? At least gfortran (and g95 (are available in that form. Now, you may prefer working with cygwin, but I wanted to make sure you knew there is an alternative. On Apr 5, 6:25 pm, 'Ed' wrote: >I have a Gateway laptop that runs Windows XP.

I am really stimped. Thanks in advance. >>All the best, >--Ed There are a number of versions of G77. The most common ones such as you might find by looking for things like g77.zip are built around MinGW. This is a Windows environment that does not provide all of the facilities of Cygwin but it also does not depend on some Cygwin specific dlls.
Getting Cygwin to 'play nice' with MinGW is a pain (IMO). Likewise, I have not given much thought at all about how I might run the Silverfrost compilers (FTN77 or FTN95) or Open Watcom (Fortran 77 + extensions) under Cygwin. [My pain tolerance is not high enough.:-)] I prefer not to use Cygwin, instead I usually run the MinGW versions of G77, G95 or Gfortran.
Also there is a minimal shell for MinGW called MSYS. (I've not used it much.) If you want to use Cygwin there are Cygwin distributions of both G95 and Gfortran. IMO if you are going to use Cygwin you might as well use G95 or Gfortran as well.
Or you could select the Cygwin components for g77 from the gcc distribution. Note that G77 is no longer being developed or AFAIK maintained. Sorry, off hand I don't remember what they are!
