A detailed procedure on how to create a bootable diagnostic CD for your Dell computer. Dell is offering an ISO image file for the diagnostics.
I've not seen the dell diags in cd/iso format but these days with any current cd burning software this is a trivial matter to deal with. Just download the non-gui diags an install them in a hard drive directory called 'dellboot' copy any other nifty utilities, bios updates, drivers etc you wish into this same directory.
Now make a bootable floppy, with a cdrom driver on it that recognizes your cdrom (virtually any one these days will work for all common cdrom drives). Olympus Camedia Master Mac. If you can boot up win98 and have it see your cdrom drive, you're almost done! Fire up roxio/easycd, and tell it you are making a new cd project - bootable cd. Tell it to take the floppy image from your floppy drive (with this disk installed) then drag and drop 'dellboot' onto the disk layout in roxio. Crayola Magic 3d Coloring Book - Fanciful Friends more. Burn your cd. Now if you have your dell boot off this cdrom, the diags will be available on your cdrom. If you wish to be clever, you could even use a lastdrive switch, force the cdrom to load as say drive 'L' and have your autoexec.bat file on the floppy have lines like: cd L: cd dellboot delldiags and it will execute the dell diags when the cdrom boots!
Hope this helps. Ps - nero also can make bootable cd disks as well. This process (which used to be arcane) is rather trivial these days. I made myself a nifty cd that boots up, has all the flash bios updates for the dells that I fix (MANY dells!), and has the diagnostics appropriate for each dell! Pretty convenient.
